Exploring Jack's Point

Jack's Point is located south of Frankton, just off the Kingston Highway, and is one of the newer suburbs of Queenstown. This area is particularly appealing to photographers, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The Remarkables, especially during golden hour, are a highlight from the elevated areas around the suburb. One of the ponds at Jack's Point Golf Course provides a unique opportunity for photographers to capture mountain reflections.

Capturing Lake Wakatipu's Peaks

Continuing south from Jack's Point along the highway, you'll reach Drift Bay. Here, a reserve and parking area offer some of the best vantage points for photographing the steep peaks on the western side of Lake Wakatipu's southeastern arm. Notable peaks include Cecil Peak and the Bayonet Peaks. While Cecil Peak is visible from Queenstown's central shoreline, Drift Bay provides a more comprehensive view.

Getting to Jack's Point

To reach Jack's Point, head south from Frankton on State Highway 6. The suburb is easily accessible and well-signposted. You can also reach Jacks Point by bike on the Jack's Point Trail. The advanced-grade trail that follows Lake Wakatipu and can be accessed from Kelvin Heights or the southern end of Jack's Point.

As you travel towards Kingston, there are additional scenic stops worth visiting. Wye Creek and Devils Staircase both offer excellent opportunities to capture the dramatic landscape.
