Lake Paringa is a scenic spot located along State Highway 6 in South Westland, north of Haast and en route to Hokitika. This lake is surrounded by untouched native forest and has a DOC campsite, creating a beautiful natural environment perfect for a peaceful retreat. It is an ideal stopover for travellers exploring the region, though you should be prepared for sandflies!

Activities at Lake Paringa

While there are no walking tracks around Lake Paringa, the lake is directly accessible by boat from the campground with a boat ramp. The lake is a good fishing spot, known for trout and salmon. Because it is surrounded by bush and wetlands, fishing is best done from a boat.

How to get to Lake Paringa

To reach Lake Paringa, travel along State Highway 6, which connects Haast to Hokitika. The lake is located just off the highway, making it an easy stop for those driving through the area.

Nearby to the south, you can also walk a section of the Haast to Paringa Cattle Track, explore Lake Moeraki and check out the Monro Beach Walk. To the north, you can access the coast at Bruce Bay.
