Discover the Manuka Bay Track

Exploring the Track
To begin the walk, head left from Hurunui Mouth, opposite the entrance to the campground. A short metal road will lead you up a cliff to a viewpoint, marking the start of the track. This track, often overlooked unless you consult a Topo Map, is a delightful path worth exploring.
The trail follows the cliff, providing superb views, before descending to the lagoon. It then loops back along the cliff, passing the actual mouth of the Hurunui River, and finally leads into Manuka Bay. For those looking to extend their walk, you can continue beyond Manuka Bay to Point Gibson.
One of the most remarkable features of the Manuka Bay Track is the unexpected view over the lagoon near the start. This scenic vista is a surprising highlight of the walk.
How to Get There
To reach the start of the Manuka Bay Track, take Hurunui Mouth Road from State Highway 1 for 10 km to Hurunui Mouth. From there, take the gravel road opposite the campground entrance and follow it up the cliff to the viewpoint and car park at the start of the track.
Hurunui Mouth Road also connects to Cathedral Road, with access to The Cathedrals and Gore Bay.
