Zig Zag Track

Exploring the Zig-Zag Track

Located just south of Titirangi Village at the northeastern end of the Waitākere Ranges, the Zig Zag Track is a scenic 30 to 40-minute walk. This track is one of the most accessible routes through a regrowth kauri forest in the area, making it a popular local choice.

A Walk Through Native Bush

The Zig Zag Track descends steeply, with steps, alongside the Paturoa Stream's deep gully. As you walk, you'll be surrounded by native bush, including an abundance of nīkau palms and several large kauri trees.

The track connects with Titirangi Beach Road, providing an option to continue to Titirangi Beach. This beach is characteristic of the smaller beaches found on the northwestern side of the Manukau Harbour.

How to Get There

To access the Zig Zag Track, head to Park Road, which is reachable from either Titirangi Road or South Titirangi Road. Park Road itself is notable for its impressive number of maturing kauri trees, making it a worthwhile visit in its own right. Once on Park Road, you can begin your walk through this beautiful section of the Waitākere Ranges.

From Titirangi, you can also take Huia Road to Cornwallis, Huia and Whatipū., with numerous hiking options along the way. Alternatively, take Scenic Drive to Arataki, Piha, Karekare and Anawhata, also with many places to explore and hiking options.
