The Cudlip Point Loop Track is a 2-hour, three km walk from Otarawao Bay to Cudlip Point on the southeast end of Mahurangi Harbour. The track is marked from the southern end of the car park behind the beach and the upper car park. The trail climbs through farmland, then heads along the ridge line to the point. There are several paddocks to cross with gates, and you are likely to see sheep. The east side of the point is mostly shrouded in forest regrowth, which also covers the trail for the last 200 metres. There is a viewpoint above the cliffs on the point, but forest growth largely obscures this. Watch out for the unusually shaped individual trees that have been left exposed on the ridge!
On the way back, the loop turnoff takes you down towards Te Muri Bay. You can cross the estuary to Te Muri Bay for two hours on either side of low tide, or continue on the Cudlip Point Loop Track along the edge of the estuary to the farm road, then walk back to Otarawao Bay.
For the Te Muri Loop Track, allow three hours return. The historic cemetery can be found shortly after crossing the estuary, and there’s likely to be few, if any, other people on the 600-metre beach. It is safe for swimming, but lacks sheltering trees. You can continue to follow the track to the point at the beach's south end and the Puhoi River's edge, with Wenderholm Regional Park on the far side..
