A short boardwalk leads you through a charming section of beech forest to several viewpoints overlooking the lakes. The main attraction here is the mirror-like reflections of the surrounding Earl Mountains, including prominent Eglinton Mountain. Even on a rainy day, the lakes possess a unique, moody and captivating allure.
How to get there
To reach the Mirror Lakes, drive along the Te Anau Milford Highway. The lakes are clearly signposted, with a designated parking area just after the Eglinton Valley stop. Be aware, this is a popular stop for tour buses.
Nearby, you can explore the Eglinton Valley, known for its golden tussock grass and mountain views, visit Lake Gunn and take a detour along the Hollyford Valley, before heading to Milford Sound.
