Discover Sunkist Bay
Sunkist Bay is a charming bay and beach located on the northwest side of Beachlands, part of the scenic Pōhutukawa Coast in Auckland. This picturesque spot has views over Tāmaki Strait to Waiheke Island. At the east end is the large grassy reserve, including a clifftop section with an outstanding viewpoint. Another feature is the Beachlands Wharf, a popular fishing location.
Features of Sunkist Bay
The sandy stretch of Sunkist Bay extends for 300 metres and is revealed as the tide recedes. Behind the beach, a high stone and concrete barrier is topped by a walkway, lined with pōhutukawa trees, with several seats to relax and enjoy the view. Access to the beach is provided by several steps leading down from the walkway, and a concrete boat ramp is available at the east end.
Within the Sunkist Bay Reserve, you will also find the Log Cabin, a historic holiday home built in 1929 by the Grove family. The cabin serves as a venue for community groups, adding a historical touch to the area.
Swimming and Safety
Sunkist Bay is generally a good spot for swimming as the tide goes out. However, it is important to check for any Swimsafe warnings, as there have been instances of toxic algae blooms affecting the water quality.
