Exploring Te Waha Point's Scenic Views

Te Waha Point, located between Piha and Whites Beach in the Waitākere Ranges in Auckland, is a destination that rewards visitors with breathtaking views. The point can be accessed from North Piha via the Marawhara Track and White Track, followed by a steep descent down a right-of-way from Anawhata Road to a side track leading to the point. Alternatively, you can drive along Piha Road and Anawhata Road, parking near the top of the right-of-way.

Spectacular Vistas and Walking Tracks

Upon reaching Te Waha Point, you'll be greeted with stunning views. From the stone seat at the cliff edge, you can gaze directly along Piha Beach. For even more impressive vistas, continue further up the point to enjoy the sight of Whites Beach. Visiting during the golden hour enhances the experience, as the evening light adds a magical touch to the landscape.

Paths to Whites Beach

An obvious and easy path leads from Te Waha Point to Whites Beach. For those seeking a bit more adventure, a sign just before the point marks a rough track. This path skirts the steep side of the point and winds through pōhutukawa trees above the cliff. Continue to the wire rope, which helps safely navigate a rocky cliff section down to the beach. Be cautious, as this part can be slippery; it is often easier to ascend than descend.

Getting to Te Waha Point

From Downtown Auckland, take the western motorway to the Te Atatu off-ramp. Head south on Route 13 through Henderson to Forest Hill Road. This winding route takes you to the Scenic Drive. Turn west onto the Scenic Drive, then shortly after, head south on Piha Road. After 5 km, you will see the turnoff for gravel Anawhata Road. Head down Anawahata Road for about 9 km to find the right of way to Te Waha Point and Whites Beach. The total drive is 39 km and takes about 1 hour. Alternatively, you can drive to the Marawhara Track access on North Piha Road.

You can also explore Anawhata Beach with a 20-minute walk from the end of Anawhata Road, the Cutty Grass Track and the McElwain Lookout.
