A Quick and Scenic Walk

The track to McElwain Lookout is easily accessible from Anawhata Road, directly opposite the entrance to the Cutty Grass Track. It takes just a few minutes to reach the lookout, 350 metres above sea level, where a viewing platform awaits above the regenerating treeline. This spot offers a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.

Getting to McElwain Lookout

To reach McElwain Lookout, take Anawhata Road from Piha Road, about halfway between Scenic Drive and Piha. Drive along gravel Anawhata Road for about 3 km to the trailhead, with roadside parking.

On Piha Road, you can also explore the Upper Nihotupu Reservoir and Ian Wells Track. Continuing along Anawahata Road, you can discover the White Track to Piha and an access path for Whites Beach and Te Waha Point.
