Wānaka Creek Walk

If you’re in Wānaka and want to take a short, peaceful stroll around the town, we recommend the partly informal walk along Bullock Creek, which you can follow down to the lake from the west side of the town as the Wānaka creek walk.

Water drains off the mountain range west of Wānaka, with multiple creeks connecting around Stone St and Sapphire Spring Rise. The resulting stream runs below the Golf Club and out into the lake by the intersection of Ardmore Street and Lakeside Road.

Where the creeks converged, there was once a trout hatchery, but it’s now being turned into a walkway. You can see where the water bubbles from the ground and follow the stream as it meanders to Stone Street. From there, it runs through public and private properties to Brownston Street. On Brownston Street, a rock channel and platforms have been developed around the stream with several pop-up food places. From Browston, take the walkway that follows the stream to Ardmore Street and the lakefront. The area around the stream mouth is attractive, with a broadwalk from the stream along the east edge of the lake to the marina
