Exploring the Ōkārito Trig Track
Located near Glacier Country in Westland, the Ōkārito Trig Track provides an accessible walk with exceptional coastal views. This track is ideal for those seeking a scenic experience, with panoramic vistas of the coast and the Southern Alps, including Aoraki / Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, on clear days.
Track Description
The Ōkārito Trig Track begins at the intersection of the Three Mile Pack Track and the Wetland Walk. From the Wetland Walk, you'll soon join the Pack Track, which leads into a coastal forest. After approximately 500 metres, the Trig Track branches off and ascends to a high point of 158 metres over the course of a kilometre, with fantastic views at the high point.
How to get there
From north of Ranz Josef Waiau and Lake Mourika, take Forks Okarito Road to the small town of Ōkārito. The Wetland Walk can be accessed from two places within the town.
You can also walk the historic Three Mile Pack Track south along the coast to Three Mile Beach. At Franz Josef, you can also discover several walks, including Roberts Point, Sentinel Rock and the Douglas Walk to Peters Pool.
