Ōrākei Wharf on Tāmaki Drive
Ōrākei Wharf, also known as Okahu Bay Wharf, is a 200-metre public pier located at the northeast end of Okahu Bay on Tāmaki Drive in Auckland, just below Takaparawhā Point. This spot is a unique opportunity to access the Waitematā Harbour without a boat. Although it can be easy to overlook if you're following the shared path along the drive, the wharf is well worth a visit for its panoramic views and recreational opportunities.
A Perfect Spot for Fishing and Relaxation
The pier features a relatively narrow walkway leading to a platform at the end, which is ideal for wharf fishing or simply relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. From this vantage point, you can take in 360-degree views: Downtown Auckland lies to the west, Devonport and Rangitoto Island are visible to the north, and the eastern bays stretch out to the south and east.
Nearby Attractions
Ōrākei Wharf is close to the entrance to Kelly Tarton’s Sea Life Aquarium, just a short distance to the south on the east side of Tāmaki Drive. Additionally, the entrance to Bastion Point, a significant historical and cultural site, is located 600 metres to the east.
How to Get There
To reach Ōrākei Wharf from Downtown Auckland, follow Tamaki Drive for 4.5 km, a 7-minute drive. Access the pier on the right side of the Okahu brick building, which serves as an event venue.
