Exploring Te Ana o Hau

Te Ana o Hau is a scenic rocky stretch along the shoreline of State Highway 59, situated between Paekākāriki and Pukerua Bay on the Kāpiti Coast. This area, once part of the main highway, now offers a relaxed coastal drive with several notable stopping points.

Coastal Walks and Scenic Views

As you drive the short stretch of highway, watch out for the spacious parking area located just before the road ascends towards Pukerua Bay. From this point, you can enjoy a short walk either to Pukerua Bay or along the coast towards Paekākāriki as the tide retreats, with opportunities to explore the many rockpools.

As you park and look up the hill, you might spot one of the swing bridges on the Paekākāriki Escarpment Track, which is part of the Te Araroa trail. This track offers stunning views and is a popular choice for those looking to experience the area's rugged landscape.

Access and Directions

Access to the stopping points along Te Ana O Hau is only available from the northbound lane of SH59.

Nearby, you can also explore Queen Elizabeth Park and Raumati. If you don't have time for the Paekākāriki Escarpment Track, drive up Paekākāriki Hill for similar views.
