Waiau Falls is a captivating natural attraction located on the Coromandel Peninsula, just 7 km along The 309 Road from State Highway 25. This picturesque waterfall is a stunning display of water cascading 6 metres over a rock face into a deep pool. The unique shape of the falls, where the water fans out over a rock bulge, adds to its visual appeal.

Activities at Waiau Falls

A short, signposted 2-minute walk through the forest from the roadside parking area leads you to the falls. The easy hike down to the base of the pools makes it a popular swimming spot. You can also climb down the riverbank above the falls to access the top.

Nearby Attractions

While visiting Waiau Falls, you might also want to explore the nearby Waiau Kauri Grove Track. However, parking is not available directly at the track. Instead, you need to walk 1 km east along the road from the waterfall parking area to reach the track entrance on the left. Additionally, The Waterworks, a fun family attraction, is located a short distance along The 309 Road to the west of the falls.

Getting to Waiau Falls

To reach Waiau Falls, drive 4 km south of Coromandel Town and turn onto The 309 Road from State Highway 25. Continue for 7 km until you reach the roadside parking area. From there, it's a brief walk through the forest to the falls.
