Discover Wyuna Bay
Wyuna Bay is a scenic spit of land at the northern end of Coromandel Harbour, just 5 km west of Coromandel Town. This harbour-facing beach provides easy coastal access and calm waters ideal for families. The peaceful setting and practical facilities make it a relaxed spot for a day by the water.
A Relaxed Day at the Beach
The bay's sheltered beach curves along the harbour edge, backed by coastal bush and residential properties. Two concrete boat ramps provide water access, with ample parking nearby and a public toilet on site. The shallow, protected waters remain calm in most conditions, creating a safe swimming environment.
Swimming suits families with young children, due to the gradual depth and absence of strong currents. The boat ramps are regularly used by recreational boaters and kayakers exploring the harbour. Picnicking on the grassy areas above the beach is common, particularly on summer weekends.
Taking a Walk
Beyond Wyuna Bay, Long Bay Road continues to Long Bay, where you'll find a commercial campground and the trailhead for the Long Bay Kauri Walk. This short track leads through regenerating bush to an ancient kauri tree, one of the few remaining old-growth specimens in the area. The walk takes roughly 30 minutes return and provides insight into the region's forest history.
How to Get There
From Coromandel Town, head north on Rings Road, which becomes Long Bay Road as it curves around McGregor Bay at the harbour's northern end. After approximately 4 km, turn right onto Wyuna Bay Road. Follow this short sealed road to its end, where you'll find the beach access, parking area, and boat ramps. Total driving time from Coromandel Town is around 8 minutes.
