Discover Station Rock on Aotea
Station Rock is a short yet rewarding walk situated on Aotea Great Barrier Island in the Hauraki Gulf of Auckland. Positioned roughly halfway between Tryphena and Medlands, the trail goes through areas of forest regrowth, culminating at a high point near a cell tower. From this vantage point, you can enjoy expansive views stretching from Medlands to the north and Tryphena to the south. The walk takes about 30 minutes return, with an option to continue southeast to the Kowhai Valley Track.

The weather on Aotea can be unpredictable, with rain sometimes adding a dramatic contrast to the landscape. However, the views from Station Rock remain captivating regardless of the conditions. Even on stormy days, the scenery provides a unique perspective of the island's natural beauty.
How to get to Station Rock
To begin your walk to Station Rock, head to Meland Road, which connects Medland and Tryphena. The track access and car park are located about halfway along this road, approximately a 5-minute drive from either direction. Although the road is sealed, it can be winding and narrow in some sections.
Other attractions at the south end of Aotea include Okupu Blind Bay, Claris, Kaitoke Beach, and Whalers Lookout.
