Kaitoke Beach on Aotea Great Barrier Island
Kaitoke Beach, located next to the airport and Claris, immediately north of Medlands on Aotea Great Barrier Island, is a stunning stretch of white sand that offers a sense of seclusion and natural beauty. This 6 km surf beach has limited access points, making it an ideal spot for those seeking solitude. The beach's expansive size ensures ample space for exploration and relaxation.
Beach Features and Activities
Kaitoke Beach is known for its pristine white sand and surf-friendly waves. The southern end of the beach features intriguing rock pools, best explored at low tide, where you can discover marine life up close. The beach's northern end, beyond the Kaitoke Creek exit, is officially named Palmers Beach, with a slightly different landscape to explore.
How to get there
To reach Kaitoke Beach from Claris, head towards the end of Oceanview Road, where the closest car access is available, about a 2-minute drive. From there, walk between the dunes to reach the beach. Although the beach fronts the airport, you are likely to have the area to yourself.
