Exploring Little Oneroa Beach
Little Oneroa Beach is a charming spot just a 12-minute walk and 2 minute drive from the centre of Oneroa town on Waiheke Island. Though smaller than its neighbour, Big Oneroa Beach, this 100-metre stretch of white sand is particularly picturesque, nestled between a rocky point and the eastern cliffs of Oneroa Bay. It is an appealing alternative when Big Oneroa Beach is crowded.
The Beach and Activities
The beach has a substantial grass reserve and playground, complete with large sheltering trees. It is very sheltered and a safe place to swim, perfect for a family. Swimming is best when the tide is high.
At low tide, you can explore the rocky area at the east end of Little Oneroa Beach and walk around to the rock formations to the west to Big Oneroa Beach. Alternatively, a track over the hill connects the two beaches and forms part of the Te Ara Hura trail. For a different perspective, head to the east end of the beach, where a short walk leads to the top of the cliffs, with stunning views.
How to get there
To reach Little Oneroa Beach, start from the centre of Oneroa town and enjoy a leisurely 12-minute walk east on the walkway or along Ocean View Road. Alternatively, driving will take a couple of minutes, with parking off the road and next to the reserve and beach.
Other beaches to visit around Waiheke Island include Palm Beach and Onetangi. You can also walk along the coast northwest of Oneroa to Mātiatia Bay via Ōwhanake Bay.
